Hey Guys!
Welcome to my 20% project blog! Im excited for this project! We were basically let free to do whatever project we want, as long as it impacts society in a way. My friend and I have a really cool idea forming.
What Lydia and I are planning to do on this project is a series of videos/short films that will each raise awareness and tell the story of some common "mental illnesses" teens go through (depression, anxiety, ect.). The purpose of this is to bring to life that these are problems that many teens face and that if you struggle with one or more of these problems you are not alone. We also want to make a website to post videos, information, donation links, and links to where to get help.
Why you guys should care about what we are doing because the problems we are addressing, such as anxiety and depression, are a real and a pretty significant problem n this day and age. We feel that people who go through these things, without a proper support system or knowledge, feel so alone and struggle to overcome it. And because of some of these things, suicide is the 3rd leading cause of death in teens. With this project we hope to spread awareness, help, what to look for, and much more.
Student-centered learning is learning where only the student takes away something from the project. While in audience based learning, not only does the student take away something from the project, but multiple people outside of the project do as well. Audience based learning might be more effective because the student has to make work that they are proud to show off to the community and beyond, not just something that they are only going to see.
So far my partner and I have only come up with a vague idea of what we are doing. It is still, very much changeable and has a lot of room for improvement. Other then coming up with a solid idea there haven't been many problems or challenges. Now, our next step is to solidify our idea and get started on what ever it is.
Ok, we'll keep you guys posted and be sure to check out Lydia's blog at http://lsouthworth.weebly.com/20-blog!!!
