Making Churros with Los Mostachos!
For this project we were to create a cooking show in spanish. We had to film ourselves making a recipe of the spanish origin, while speaking in only Spanish. This was our result!
El Proyecto de la Biografia - Antonio Gaudi
In this project we were to pick a famous person from the Hispanic culture and 'become them' for a day. The process included researching our individual person and creating a dialogue telling about their lives. Along with all of this we were also to create some sort of medium to go along with it, such as a guitar solo for a musician or a painting in the style of that painter.
The famous person that I picked was the famous, modernist architecture Antonio Gaudi. I chose him because I was very intrigued in his colorful and organic buildings, they are very eye-catching and I plan to visit them sometime in my life. As you can see in my art work, I attempted to replicate his style of architecture in the creation of my own building. I tried to make it very organic and 'nature-like' as Gaudi would. Also, Because he is dead and his life was in the past I had to use past imperfect and past preterite in the dialogue I had created. Therefore I learned a great amount about the past tense and had some great practice in speaking it. Overall I have gotten to know a lot about Antonio Gaudi and have gotten some great practice in speaking in the past tense. Though, as you can see in my video below, I am no where close to being a master at it and look forward to improving with the years to come. |
This was the house I drew in the style of Gaudi. He was a very organic and colorful architect, so I tried to make this art the most colorful and unique as I could. As you can see the roof is not the traditional flat triangle, yet a curvy "spiked" roof with a crazy floral chimney!

Día De Los Muertos (Day of the Dead)
In this project we were to write 2 calaveras in Spanish. Calaveras are funny little poems about how people die. In this project we had to write one about a famous person and some random profession that we chose. I chose to do mine about a fisherman and Abraham Lincoln. Then we were to chose our favorite calavera and draw a picture for it. Once we were done we created an altar to honor and remember someone that was close to us, or had some meaning in our lives, that died. I decide to honor my Grandfather, who died the year I was born. I never quite knew him, yet I hear about him a lot and he has defiantly had an impact on my family. So I figured I would honor the man I have heard so much about. One everything was done, we had an exhibition to show all of our work to the public. It was fun, we got to pain our faces as skeletons, make sugar skulls and traditional Mexican cookies and other dishes. It was truly memorable.
My Calaveras were not made in one try. It was a process that took many drafts. In the first draft I had, my ideas were not completely solid and had many spelling and grammar mistakes. I had to revise it around 7 times, with the help of the teachers, until I finally had my final draft. It was a long process but defiantly worth it.
In this project we not only created some beautiful work, but we learned a little bit more about the Mexican culture. My understanding of the Mexican Culture has defiantly grown since the start of this project especially in the Día de los Muertos aspect of it. I have learned that the actual holiday has changed since Native times. When the Spaniards arrived, they tried to bring their christen culture to dominate the Aztec culture. Yet, Día de los Muertos was too strong of a tradition, so they just ended up accepting Día de los Muertos and adding a few things to it.

El raro que soy (The Rare Individual That I Am)
In this project we had to describe and introduce ourselves in a letter, which we would then send to students at a private school in Mexico. Using the simple vocabulary that we had learned in class, we were easily able to answer multiple questions about ourselves, in spanish. Then we used all those questions and put them into a letter format. Once we had finished our letter we got to create a picture out of all the spanish words we used. So, we had to pick something that we thought might represent us and create it or fill it in with the spanish vocabulary we had learned.
- One specific concept or skill that I learned from this project was the ability to describe people's physical appearance. Before this project I did not know the vocabulary for physical features. So after all the lessons and writing them over and over, I finally have the basic skills for describing people down.
- My ability to describe people in spanish have improved a significant amount. Before this project I did not know how to say hair or how to say the color of it. I did not know how to describe someone's body structure, skin color, or eye color. I really did not know how to describe people physically at all. I did have some knowledge on how to describe personality, though, from previous years of spanish. So, after this project I feel pretty confident in describing people.
- My art piece is a representation of beautiful work because I worked really hard on it and it is meaningful to me. I outlined, colored, and tried to put as much detail in it. Spending days on it, trying to get it to the point I wanted it to be at. It also does have a meaning behind it. Its not just some random item that I put words into. I chose it for a reason, it has meaning. I chose to do a Converse shoe because, I am a Converse fan and I travel with them everywhere. So every great experience I've had, even the bad ones, I've had them on. They've been there with me. They carry memories and, well, they're kind of a part of me now. This isn't some random piece of work that I had to do for school, Its a little window into my life. Its my beautiful work.
- If I had the chance to refine my shoe, I might outline it more and make the colors darker and more vibrant. I would do this to just make it more neat and look nicer.
